Question: why should i vote for you?

Keywords: ,

  1. Serious answer: I’ll donate the money to a very worthy cause, spreading information about HIV and AIDS in Africa. Non-serious answer: Wouldn’t you miss my smiling face?

  2. I like to promote STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) to students for a few reasons:
    * It isn’t as hard as people perceive it to be.
    * The work can be fun
    * STEM is important to make new and cool products

Here in the US (and also in UK), my company (among many) has a variety of STEM outreach/encouragement programs that employees can get involved in. Personally I am on the committee of the TWIST program (Teachers Working in Science and Technology) and I host a STEP Student (Science Training Encouragement Program) this coming summer – she is in year 11 and will spend 8 weeks in my lab doing work that I do.

Now, I can’t bring students over from Australia to experience this, but this would give me a reason to create a resource for students and teachers on science encouragement that Aussie kids can also benefit from.

Even if I am evicted, I would still be happy to answer questions and talk in the chatrooms.

  3. I’d like to provide material to the microscopes in schools program. Currently we don’t have enough fossil material to give every student access and so loan kits are made up. Also it would be good to add other material which looks at biodiversity and morphology so each school had a permanent collection of material for all their students

  4. I help run a program that brings students up to Mt. Stromlo Observatory to look through our telescope and see space firsthand. It is a fully volunteer program and I’d use the money to fund it more to bring more students like you up the mountain.

  5. I think getting kids excited about science is the key to the future. So if I win, I will donate the money to a great program in Africa that provides science kits (and training) to schools. Plus, I’m fun!
