Meteors are constantly hitting the Earth. That is what causes shooting stars, dust and small grains that burn up in our atmosphere. Occasionally bigger objects, the size of rocks, hit and leave craters. We do know that a larger meteor/asteroid has hit the Earth before, just north of Mexico, around the time the dinosaurs went extinct (it is not certain if this was the cause though of the dinosaur extinction). It most likely is inevitable that this will happen again, but the time scale is very large. Astronomers are constantly search for asteroids, especially ones that could hit the Earth and those that could harm the Earth. So far to date, none have been found that pose a significant risk. We are looking though. We are sure that it won’t happen this year and end the world as rumors have suggest on the internet, those are false.
Well those are asteroids that a NASA mission will land on, study, and return to the Earth with samples. Those asteroids might come near the Earth in the later 2100’s (not for over 150 years).
