Solar panels are an excellent way to prevent the burning of fossil fuels. The main use of coal is to generate electricity, so if we can replace it with a cleaner, greener means than that would eliminate the need for coal almost altogether. Solar panels and other types of green, renewable energy such as wind turbines and hydro-electric power should be used as much as possible.
It would not stop global warming all together though, but it’d go a long way in slowing/preventing it. Oil and cars are another large source of pollution, so we’d need to find a way to reduce our emissions through that source too. Having clean electricity would be a tremendous step in the right direction. We should try to do everything we can to prevent global warming.
Solar panels are fantastic. If everyone had them, including big businesses, factories, etc, then it would almost eliminate the need for fossil fuels. As Brad said, there would still be the need for fossil fuels in cars and other transport, but there are clean alternatives for these too. There is so much energy being produced by the sun that it is at least theoretically possible to use it to replace all other energy sources. Whether we can (and will) do that remains to be seen.
I don’t think global warming can completely stop now, as our population will only keep growing. But hopefully we can make some changes to slow it down. You’re right, solar panels are a great way to preserve our resources, and hopefully will become standard in the future.
Solar panels is one option to stop burning coal. I don’t think many countries will be going down the nuclear plant path after what happened in Japan. Problem with solar panels is their effectiveness isn’t that high yet (but they are getting there) and you need to put them somewhere to collect the energy. Wind farms can get very noisy and can be dangerous to birds.
Global warming/climate change is not only caused by the burning of coal other fuels. There are other contributing factors, including animals, but every bit helps.
